Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Expedition Strategy & Sunset Summit

How does the Sunset Summit push work compared to standard sunrise climbs?

Instead of waking up at 02:00 AM in freezing darkness, you begin climbing from Sembalun Rim at 02:30 PM in daylight. You reach the 3,726m peak by 05:30 PM to watch the sunset over Bali and Sumbawa, then descend back to camp using headlamps under guide supervision.

Why choose the 4D3N Grand Traverse over a 3D2N trek?

The 4D3N itinerary adds a dedicated relaxation day at Segara Anak Lake on Day 2. You have ample time to swim, soak in hot springs, and rest without rushing, leading to better altitude acclimatization and higher energy for the summit.

Can we switch back to a standard sunrise summit push if preferred?

Yes! On private tours, your itinerary is flexible. If you prefer the traditional 02:00 AM sunrise summit attack on Day 4 morning instead of Day 3 sunset, your lead guide can adjust the schedule seamlessly.

Fitness & Difficulty

How difficult is this 4-day traverse?

This is an advanced trek covering ~52 km across varying terrain, including rainforest, steep rocky caldera walls, scree ridges, and savannas. However, because the distance is spread over 4 days, daily physical fatigue is more manageable than on 3-day options.

Is this trek suitable for families or group travelers?

Yes, active families and groups who prefer an unhurried pace love the 4D3N Grand Traverse because it offers an enjoyable balance between mountain challenge and relaxing camping by the lake.

Logistics, Transfers & Luggage

Where do we leave our suitcases and heavy luggage?

All non-essential travel bags and suitcases can be safely stored at our basecamp office in Senaru for free during your 4-day expedition.

Where can we be transferred after finishing in Sembalun on Day 4?

Our private transport service drops you anywhere in Lombok after the trek, including Bangsal Harbor (for Gili Islands), Senggigi, Mataram, Kuta Lombok, or Lombok International Airport (LOP).

What time do we complete the trek on Day 4?

You will typically finish at Sembalun Village between 01:30 PM and 02:30 PM on Day 4. Transfers to Bangsal take about 1.5–2 hours, while transfers to Kuta or the Airport take around 2.5–3 hours.

Gear, Weather & Camp Services

What do porters carry versus what I carry in my pack?

Porters carry all heavy camping gear (tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, toilet tent), food, cooking gear, and water. You only carry a light daypack (20-30L) containing personal items, warm clothes, camera, and water bottle.

Can I hire a personal porter for my personal backpack?

Yes, dedicated personal porters can be booked for $25 USD per day to carry your personal daypack (up to 20 kg) throughout the entire 4-day traverse.

Are private toilet tents provided at every campsite?

Yes, our team sets up an enclosed toilet tent with a clean sit-toilet structure at every campsite (Senaru Rim, Segara Anak Lake, and Sembalun Rim) for your group's privacy and comfort.
